Project AX Classic is a blend of old school game play with original "Classic" Everquest content but with bots! The difference here is that we carry the original EQBots code, and we're proud to be one of the very first public servers to implement this. We are also unique in that this server is capable of having raid bots to raid with for each player. This is still being improved upon by coders today. We also have custom content available for higher level players so like the old tradition there is always something to do. Warning: Even with bots, this very challenging.
Bots are NPCs, or non-player characters that, when grouped, try to emulate players as closely as possible. They will be part of your team so to speak and be ready at your disposal with available bot commands. Over the years the bot's AI (artificial intelligence) have improved to the point that tankers will tank properly, casters will cast spells such as buffs, de-buffs, and even heal at correct times. In fact, they will even chatter amongst themselves when you least expect it.
Of course not. You can group with players and friends at any time and add bots or remove bots at your leisure. If you ever had a time where you couldn't get a proper group because of lack of players or a wrong mixture of classes, this is where bots comes in. Sometimes you feel like grouping with players, sometimes you feel like grouping with bots, sometimes you feel like solo'ing by yourself without any help at all. AX Classic has all those options.
Our goal here is to try and bring you back to a time where your heart was in the original Classic zones, and places like Butcherblock Mountains and Southern Plains of Karana were in your thoughts and dreams. Only this time, you'll have that perfect group you wanted at all times. With EQBots, you'll be able to go anywhere in the game, build impressive raid groups, and take on the toughest raid bosses. You'll be going places that were never possible when you played before, so try it out, it's free!
Legacy of the Rathe Server is the official AX Classic server, and is used for the latest development of bots, hosted by AX Classic developers.
1. The classic "feel". The goal here is to build in a way that captures the essence of how Everquest was in the very beginning and trying to avoid what we see as the abandonment over that.
2. Bots. They are a great help here. However, this is not a given. You have to quest for each bot. You earn them and up to 64 bots by level 65 (Max level).
3. The ability to try new places you have never gone without having to convince 5 other people to go with you.
4. The world is big again! There are no PoK (Plane of Knowledge) books. PoK exists, after you reach level 46 you can teleport there, if you have quested for your adventure stones.
5. Take a boat ride! The boat works from Butcherblock Mountains to Freeport. Make sure you have downloaded the correct files that add an extension to the freeport dock, found in the 'How to Connect?' section on the front page.
6. Nobody starts on Luclin or Mines of Gloomingdeep, Iksars still start in Cabilis. Vah Shir, however, start on Kerra Island. The Trolls have regained their homeland and Frogloks start in Swamp of No Hope.
7. The expansions being worked on so far: Original, Kunark, Velious, Luclin, some Omens of War zones. Mostly finished but being "fleshed out" currently.
8. You can directly contribute to the ongoing development of this project by reporting bugs you find in the forums or by making suggestions.
Absolutely not. AX Classic Everquest is free and content is updated constantly. However if you would like to contribute, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
When you finally get your client working with the emulator, it would be a good idea to make a back up of it all. A preferred method would be another hard disk drive, external USB flash drive, DVD/CD-ROM disc, or if you're really oldschool, zip drives and floppy hard drives. It's important to preserve all these older editions of Everquest as they are becoming harder and harder to find.
What kind of ping do you have? You can have the fastest connection in the world but have a slow ping. Playing Everquest (from the client) does not require a fast connection, but does require a fast "ping". Believe it or not, modem connections usually have the best pings. Here's something that helps optimize any type of connection (TCP Optimizer). If you want to learn more about all this, click here.
If you're bugged and/or in that dreaded "death-loop", click here to move back to your hometown. Type in your Login username and your character name to be moved. NOTE: To make sure your character has successfully moved, do not run the mover while you are in game. In other words, make sure you are fully logged out and quit to desktop, if LD or linkdead wait couple of minutes, then execute the mover, then restart your Everquest client afterwards. Please report any bugs in Forums so we can fix it.
As you may already know, there are no bats in the Kunark expansion. In order to complete your first
bot quest with an Iksar, go and hail Trooper Gegren over in West Cabilis (he is the guard
that stands closest to Aediles Thrall); he will offer to trade loose scaled, for bat wings.
You can find loose scales on the young scaled wolvies, that roam in the same zone.
Update: Aediles Thrall now asks for loose scales instead of bat wings if you are Iksar, and will gladly accept them.
To play on The Rathe Server, we recommend several clients:
Tip: Majority of players on this server use either Titanium or Underfoot client. The difference between the two in a nutshell is that Titanium is the most stable whereas Underfoot has more 'eye-candy' graphics such as particle effects, updated textures, and a mana bar in your party's window.
Having the option to be grouped with PC generated companions is a dream come true
with bots. It's certainly one less thing to worry about when you're exploring
the beautiful, yet often dangerous land of Norrath.
Starting at level one, you quality for one bot so you should concentrate on getting it. In almost every starting town, there is an NPC named Aediles Thrall, he is the "bot merchant". Talk to him, for he will give you your first bot for free. As you level, you may earn more bots by completing quests from him.
If you cannot find Aediles Thrall, you can use the Find button. Make sure you enable search for all NPCs in the zone. Tip: Try to make a Druid as your first bot, since they can heal and fight well. They also make great outdoor helpers such as forage, tracking, etc.
Hot Zones are areas or "zones" in the game that have been selected to offer players an Experience bonus that is greater than regular zones of similar difficulty. On Live they also offered extra loot, which was often available even after the zones were no longer "hot". Years later, quests related to hot zones were added for population distribution and/or for augmentation gear drops.
With the limited amount of developers to contribute on current projects, we decided several years ago to focus solely on the Rathe server for developmental reasons. AX Classic doesn't support repacks any more, as it hasn't been updated since 2012. Since then, we have made vast improvements to the Rathe server which brought players together as a community and also helped strengthen our player base. All these fixes as a whole help deliver content in a timely manner and we will continue to do so. If you are still interested in repacks, there are many at EQemu as they are well updated with their own resources; as far as AX Classic repacks, we don't support it any longer.
